UPDATE (April 12, 2010): Thanks to your generosity, we have met the challenge! Your combined contributions of $20,000 will be matched by a generous, anonymous donor bringing the total to $40,000. Thank you to everyone involved. These funds are much needed at this point in the Literacy Council's history, when government funding is on the decline. In 2006 state, county, and local government support accounted for about 50% of LCNV's budget. Today, it accounts for just over 30%. Your contributions enable the organization to keep meeting the need for beginning level literacy and English language instruction across Northern Virginia.
A generous anonymous donor has provided LCNV a most welcomed dollar-for-dollar matching grant of $20,000 for all new and increased gifts from individual donors. The grant stays in effect until June 30, 2010, the end of our current fiscal year.
For example, if you've never given to LCNV before, then any donation will be doubled. A $25 gift becomes $50. A $50 gift becomes $100.
And if you have supported LCNV in the past, then any increase over that amount will be matched, dollar-for-dollar. For example, if you supported LCNV with a $100 donation last year and give $150 this year (by June 30, 2010), then the challenge grant will match $50 of that gift, meaning your total impact is $200—enough to sponsor two local families in our Family Learning Program for a full 10-week semester.
Support from individuals such as yourself is more critical now than ever before. The faltering economy has led to decreased (and in some cases disappearing) financial support from governments and foundations, funding that LCNV has traditionally depended upon. Please help us bridge the gap, so we can continue to provide the beginning-level literacy and English langauge education thousands of Northern Virginia families rely on each year to reach new levels of indepence by improving their lives and the lives of their families.
Please don’t delay. Let's reach our goal of $20,000. Donate online right now!
