The Literacy Council of Northern Virginia hosted its seventh annual Reading: A Family Affair (RAFA), which took place this past March 2, 2013. RAFA, a family event that celebrates books through performance art, brought more than 720 individuals together - a record turnout! Contributions at the door, along with Signature Sponsor Verizon, helped LCNV raise over $15,000 in support of LCNV adult learners!
Reading: A Family Affair would not be possible without the support of WETA Kids’ Clifford the Big Red Dog; Fairfax County Neighborhood and Community Services and the James Lee Community Center staff; KIHOMAC; Porterfield & Carnes Communications; Rotary Club of Crystal City-Pentagon; Day & Night Printing; and over 50 LCNV volunteers.
Performers such as Groovy Nate, Sing Books with Emily, Tom Lilly, and Good Life Theater captivated residents of Northern Virginia. The family literacy day also included performances by Zurii Conroy; Lulu Delacre; Jane Dorfman; Kalavaridhi; Kaydee Puppeteers; Oh Susannah; and The Rainbow Company.
