For more than 15 years, LCNV has benefited from the support and guidance of The Morris & Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation. Since 1994, it has provided more than $165,000 in grant money to LCNV, much of it in the form of general operating support, a type of funding which is especially useful to growing, evolving nonprofits who seek to meet the needs of a changing population. LCNV also benefits from the experience and wisdom of The Morris & Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation's program staff, who provide helpful advice during their site visits.

"I have had the honor of working with the Literacy Council of Northern Virginia for many years," says Tobi Printz-Platnick, Program Officer at The Morris & Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation. "I have attended multiple classes and different events. During each of these visits, the strong leadership, dedicated volunteers and amazing students have thoroughly impressed me. While the stories told by the adult learners are always inspirational, I believe that the unwavering commitment LCNV makes to each of them is just as laudable."

The Morris & Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation is the largest private, independent, local Foundation focused exclusively on the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. The Foundation is the legacy of Morris Cafritz, one of Washington's leading commercial and residential builders from the early 1920s to the mid-1960s. An outstanding civic leader known for his generosity, Morris Cafritz established the Foundation in 1948. Since 1970, when electronic record keeping was initiated, awards totaling more than $338 million have been granted. The Foundation is committed to improving the quality of life for residents of the Washington, DC area.
