The tutoring department is gearing up for the upcoming year of tutor training. As usual, the Basic and ESOL tutoring programs will hold four workshops apiece, with each workshop extending over three Saturdays. ESOL leads off this year with its first workshop scheduled for August 14, 21, and 28, 2010. The Basic program follows close on its heels, with a workshop on September 11, 25, and October 2. The remaining three ESOL tutor trainings begin in October, 2010, January, 2011, and April, 2011. The Basic ones start in November, 2010, February, 2011, and May, 2011.
Tutor training workshops are always exciting for us since the more tutors we train, the more students we are able to serve. Many areas in Northern Virginia have long lists of students who are waiting patiently to receive tutors. For example, there currently is a great need for additional Basic and ESOL tutors in the portion of Alexandria which is in Fairfax County. In addition, the Basic program especially needs additional tutors in Lorton and Springfield, while the ESOL program especially needs them in Reston and Fairfax.
Existing volunteers are often our programs' best ambassadors. If you know people who might be interested in becoming tutors, please encourage them to register for one of our workshops. They can fill out their registration forms on the Council's website or contact Belle Peñaranda, the Council's Director of Volunteers, for more information.
If you're interested in receiving training to become an LCNV volunteer tutor, please view our calendar to find a set of training workshops you can attend.
