Connections for Hope

by Erin Finn

The Literacy Council is pleased to announce the opening of a new location in partnership with six other social service agencies as part of an exciting new project called Connections for Hope. The currently participating agencies are:

Connections for Hope, located in Herndon, is an important step forward in the way human service programs are delivered in Northern Virginia. By establishing offices and points of direct service under one roof, the partner organizations of Connections for Hope have in essence created a one-stop shop for their clients. This has a number of benefits for everyone involved. Many of the clients who avail themselves of these services have limited transportation options. Assembling a variety of human services under one roof relieves them of the need to travel between disparate locations. The more accessible these programs become, the more they will be used, which should increase the positive impact they have on clients' lives. And that's what it's all about.

Service providers will benefit too. Being in closer and more frequent contact with fellow partner organizations will promote the sharing of ideas, innovations, and institutional knowledge. This can only have a positive impact on the way we improve and update our programs.

We aren't the only ones excited about this project. Dr. Regina Benjamin, the Surgeon General of the United States, will be attending and speaking at Connection for Hope's ribbon-cutting ceremony. Congressman Frank Wolf from Virginia's 10th district will be too. The ceremony was scheduled for Friday, February 12, but has been postponed because of the snow and will be rescheduled soon. We'll let you know as soon as the date it set. Here's where Connections for Hope is located and where the ceremony will be held: 13525 Dulles Technology Dr., Hendon, Virginia.

Registration and class dates for LCNV classes held at Connections for Hope (and other Northern Virginia locations) are here: www.lcnv.org/schedules.cfm.
