Over the past year, the Literacy Council has been reaching out to the community through social media. The main project in this endeavor is our blog, entitled Literacy Live. The blog, updated regularly, keeps viewers informed on major events as well as the day to day activities that go on at LCNV. The website contains many posts written by our AmeriCorps members about their personal teaching experiences. More recently, however, other LCNV staff members have contributed their own blog posts, so viewers receive a variety of information from different sources when they log on.
The goal of this project is not only to inform the community about activities and volunteer opportunities at LCNV but also to elicit feedback. Currently, the Council is in the process of inviting current tutors, volunteer teachers, aides, and board members to write their own blog posts so that visitors who log onto our website can read a post to which they directly relate and, hopefully, offer up their own comments. Eventually, we hope to create an LCNV forum where teachers can come together and brainstorm about teaching strategies and classroom activities.
Literacy Live can be accessed through a link on the Literacy Council's homepage at www.lcnv.org or directly at http://lcnvblog.wordpress.com. The Literacy Council also maintains profiles on Facebook, Twitter, and Flickr.
