The Literacy Council frequently offers in-service programs to tutors and other adult educators in the community. We are currently taking registrations for the following programs:
A Lexical Feast
Vocabulary Development for ESOL Learners with Oxford Picture Dictionary author Jayme Adelson-Goldstein
10:00 a.m.–12 noon
Literacy Council of Northern Virginia
2855 Annandale Road
Falls Church, 22042
Vocabulary acquisition is key to our learners’ language skill development. This lighthearted workshop with special presenter Jayme Adelson-Goldstein, co-author of Oxford Picture Dictionary, will explore techniques that help learners move from comprehension to production to ownership of vocabulary. We’ll also look at the five stages of vocabulary acquisition as well as the strategies learners use to develop their active vocabulary. All attendees will receive a complimentary copy of the latest edition of Oxford Picture Dictionary.
This workshop is appropriate for ESOL tutors, ESOL Learning Centers teachers and aides, and Family Learning teachers and aides. Although the workshop will focus on oral English skills, Basic Literacy tutors teaching learners whose native language is not English may also find it useful.
Space is limited. Contact LCNV at (703) 237-0866 or info@lcnv.org by Wednesday, November 25th to register.
