The Literacy Council frequently offers in-service programs to tutors and other adult educators in the community. We are currently taking registrations for the following programs:

Some tutors in the ESOL Tutoring Program use the Side by Side series as the primary text in working with their students. Other ESOL tutors and classroom teachers have found it to be a useful supplementary resource. The Literacy Council is sponsoring a workshop on the effective use of this series. Sheila Peterson from Pearson/Longman, the publisher of this text, will provide a brief introduction to the series and offer some tips about how to use it effectively. Workshop participants who have used Side by Side will have the opportunity to share successful strategies with the group. Sheila also will tell us about some newer Pearson/Longman ESOL materials designed for students at a variety of English levels. This workshop is open to all LCNV volunteers and staff but will be most useful for those working with students in the Council's ESOL programs. Workshop participants will receive free copies of some of the texts discussed as well as light refreshments.
